As a family we lived on various farms near by, my first recollection is Clavertye Farm, between Elham and Stelling Minnis. This is where I was introduced to driving a tractor by my dad, I used to sit on his lap and steer, by the time I was thirteen years old I was able to drive all the equipment on the farm from tractors to combine harvesters. My first school was in the village of Elham from 1955 to 1961, then Brockhill School, Saltwood Hythe for six months until my parents moved farms to Eastry, Kent where I attended Sandwich County Secondary Modern, until 1966. Whilst at Sandwich School I joined 1859 Sqn of the Air Training Corps and eventually attained the rank of Sergeant and also Drum Major of the Pipe Band. I was also a Staff Cadet at RAF Manston, which involved instructing other cadets in preparation for their air experience flight in DeHaviland Chipmunk two seat aircraft. Each cadet was entitled to one half hour of flying per year. I was helped in this by my fellow Sergeant Cadet Mike Law and as a remuneration we where entitled to an hour of flying each day . At the end of the weekend stay Mike and I used to persuade the Air Sea Rescue boys to give us a lift home in the helicopter, and as I lived on a farm it was easy for them to put down in the field and drop us off, all great fun as a youngster, and after all these years I have great respect for the duties these boys carry out. Then it was time to leave school and join the big wide world It was at this time I decided to enlist in the Royal Air Force along with two pals from school Michael Law and Peter Fox. After our year of training at RAF Hereford we where posted to various parts of the world. I was posted to RAF Thorney Island in Hampshire, from there I was detached to Ireland and Cyprus, but remained stationed at Thorney Island until I was discharged on 3rd July 1971, which coincidently was my 21st Birthday!!!............. During the following years I worked on and off in Saudi Arabia first in 1972 for Airworks (contracted to the Royal Saudi Air Force) based at Riyadh & Dhahran. On my return to England I passed my HGV 1 driving test and went to drive for Ifield Transport (Owner now deceased was Derek Simmonds). I drove all over England and Europe which was great fun. Then in 1977 I returned to Saudi joining the Cunard Shipping Line in London for a position in Jeddah. The company name in Saudi Arabia was [CAMEL] Cunard Arabian Middle East Line, and the transport side was called (CART) Cunard Arabian Road Transport where I drove HGV 1 trucks, which involved unloading Cunards Ro-Ro Container Ships and delivering the containers as necessary all over Saudi and neighbouring states......... On my return to England after one year I gave up driving trucks and started in the Private Hire world at Gatwick Airport, then in 1982 went out on my own. To date I own three cars and have several others on my circuit which is called ABC Taxis.............As this page progresses I shall include some photos, which may help some of you out there remember me, god forbid.
